The purpose of this organization is to stimulate arts participation by encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the arts community, promoting a positive image for the arts as an essential part of the central Illinois culture, and to receive, administer and distribute funds in connection with the activities related to the above purposes.

As an arts service organization, the AART maintains a database of artists and related individuals and businesses to facilitate contact with-and among-members of the art community and related resources.
